Kings v. 76ers 1.2.14

Went to the game with Arnold today. He took a nice pick of me with this Sixth Man jersey encased in glass outside the Kings Team Store. I love how the Kings acknowledge the fans as a crucial part of the team in ways like this. There is also a giant '6' statue outside the arena. Kings fans were what got me into the Kings... without their passion... I'd probably would have been watching the Sharks play Edmonton tonight on my couch!

The Kings encouraged the fans to send tweets to the players using the hashtag #foreverpurple. Tweets that fans send in can be read by the players on screens near the locker room. The concourse also had screens displaying the fan tweets. Whadya know?!?! I saw the encourage-o-tweet that I sent in before the game!!!

The 76ers were in town tonight. They wore their red, white, and blue jumpsuits for warm-up. I felt like I should have worn a different outfit tonight as my retro kings track jacket were the exact same colors of the Sixers.

Former King Spencer Hawes played tonight. He was booed every time he got the ball. Why you ask? Well, he openly said last year that he favored the Kings moving to Seattle. I heard he was even wearing Sonics hats and the like. That is totally uncool in my eyes... and apparently to all the Kings fans in the arena too.

I got this neat shot of the Kings huddling up before tip-off. I think it's funny how Jimmer is leaning into the player in front of him. Is that Ray McCallum? I can't tell because of the darkness. Anyways, might be my favorite pic I took tonight.

It's been great to get to know and talk to some of the people who work for the Kings. Katie was outside helping to sell Kings mystery bags. Basically, the Kings put items of players who have left the team into mystery bags for fans to purchase. It's a fun way to get some memorabilia for a great deal, with the fun of being surprised too. Katie also does a lot of the Kings Community work. I see her organizing a lot of events all the time. You've probably seen her around to if you go to them! Say hi to her! She's very friendly and approachable.

The big DeMarcus Cousins head was out again! Kings fans had another chance to win an autographed jersey from the Big Cuz if they show they voted for him to go to the All-Star Game. I really think he deservers to go, but playing for Sacramento probably doesn't help. We're definitely a team that nobody pays attention to nationally. That's gotta change.... fast!

Another game, another pretzel. Dang these things are good. Both me and Arnold got our own pretzels, and we added cheese dunkers for $2 extra. I know, I know... two dollars for cheese dip is a lot... but may, that cheese is sooooo gooood!

Slamson was in rare form tonight! He got dressed in all sorts of crazy get-ups. I'm not sure what he's going for in this picture, but whatever it was, fans went crazy for a picture with him. At halftime, an entertainer did a Michael Jackson tribute, and lo and behold, Slamson came out later wearing a replica MJ red jacket - like the one he wore in Thriller. Slamson is the greatest! So funny!

Jimmer had a very quiet first half, but he helped the Kings come back in this game in a big way. He was totally on fire and made shot after shot. It was impressive to see. If only this kind of performance happened more from him!

It was a tough loss tonight for the Kings. The Sixers are a team that the Kings should be, especially at home. A few things made it tough for the Kings. First of all, they were letting the Sixers score at will when they drove in. The Kings also missed a bunch of free throws. That's surprising because the Kings are actually a decent free throw shooting team. And lastly, the Kings had some frustration at the officiating. Both Isaiah Thomas and Demarcus went headband-less for a while because they were angry at calls in the game. I think they had a right to be angry this game. Hopefully they'll use it for the game coming up on Saturday and get a win. I'll be taking my wife to that one!
